WAUKEE AREA ARTS COUNCIL Presents BLUEGRASS BAND
ORTONVILLE CIRCUS
Friday, January 22, 2010

Waukee, Iowa – The Waukee Area Arts Council is proud to present the Bluegrass Band - The Ortonville Circus at our new facility ArtsCentral, 405 Maple Street, Waukee on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and can be reserved by phone, purchased at the Waukee Hardware or will be available at the door. Call 515-402-7870 to reserve today.

The band borrowed the name from the Orton Flying Circus that used to winter near Waukee. “I’m sure there are many people that remember the old town of Ortonville just west of Waukee,” said Cindy DePond, President of the Waukee Area Arts Council. “While playing around the Des Moines area, the band members still run into descendents of the Orton family.” Although not family members themselves, the band continues to enjoy the stories of the original Orton family and have collected copies of some family pictures.

The Ortonville Circus consists of Mark Movic, bass; Jeremy Phillips, Mandolin; Lynn Swanson, Guitar; and Tom Riehl, Banjo. The band has been together since 2003 and is influenced by traditional string-band music, bluegrass, and a mix of modern music.

“This will be a down-home evening of great music,” said DePond. “You may hear a rock or alternative song performed in a manner that you do not expect and that is just part of the fun. We may have everyone dancing in the aisles.”
