Past Events and Projects

Grant Wood at 5 Turner Alley
The Waukee Area Arts Council hired Delaney Travel, LLC to organize a day trip to The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art for Grant Wood at 5 Turner Alley, a major exhibition on Saturday, October 29, 2005 to see the original American Gothic and tour Wood’s studio where he painted some of his most legendary works.

The group had a docent-led tour of the exhibition and toured Wood’s original Studio. There was also time for shopping at the museum shop, a look at the many murals and parodies of the American Gothic around downtown Cedar Rapids, and a stop at the Coliseum to see Wood's Veteran's Memorial stained glass window.

Garbage Arbor by Steve Gerberich – November, 2005
Waukee native and internationally known artist, Steve Gerberich returned home to create a uniquely Gerberich holiday sculpture on the Waukee Triangle. Garbage Arbor sprouted 30 feet high from the Triangle, composed of discarded manmade objects and created an angular spectacle pointing to the heavens. This 30-foot Christmas arbor bloomed and glowed throughout the holiday season. “Lit from within, this faux fir will be a beacon of mystery and magic,” said Gerberich. This project was funded in part by The City of Waukee, Waste Management and in-kind support from the Waukee Area Arts Council.

Having grown up in Waukee, Steve Gerberich is a 1978 graduate. His unique artistic view of the world started here with his family and brother Tim. Turning everyday objects into wonderfully bizarre mechanical creations launched Gerberich as a professional artist and caught the attention of the public, international art collectors and art critics. Gerberich’s extensive list of commissions include: Bloomingdale’s, Sony, Jordache, K Swiss, Macy’s, ESPN Zone, Microsoft, and Yahoo. His public installations can be seen currently in: New York City, New York; Baltimore, Maryland; Chicago, Illinois; and now - Waukee, Iowa.
